Jana Foundation with students and staff at a leadership session

Empowering young girls to make positive choices and lead

Jana Foundation visited a primary school to engage pupils in a session on responsible choices, preventing teenage pregnancy and developing leadership skills. Pupils were encouraged to protect their future and understand the risks of early sexual activity, and to say no to pressure that could affect their education.

A major focus was leadership: we encouraged the girls to see themselves as future leaders, to speak up, take responsibility and contribute positively to their schools and communities — reminding them that today's circumstances don't have to determine tomorrow's.

"Protect your future. Stay in school. Believe in yourself. Make positive choices. Speak up. And dare to lead."

Building the capacity of young women at various universities

Jana Foundation visits universities across Ghana to build the capacity of young women and encourage them to take an active role in leadership, civic participation and national development. Our conversations cover personal development, confidence building, public speaking and decision making.

We encourage students to get involved in student leadership, organisations and clubs — and to see university as a place to build the knowledge and experience needed to serve Ghana, whether through civic engagement, advocacy, community development or public service.

Bringing cervical cancer screening closer to market women

In collaboration with Superior Medical Centre, Jana Foundation invited market women to the hospital for cervical cancer screening and medical education. Many of these women are busy supporting their families and often put their own health needs aside — so we brought the opportunity to them.

Women learned about cervical cancer, the importance of early detection, and were encouraged to make regular screening part of their healthcare routine — because a healthy woman means a stronger family and a stronger community.

Inspiring students to excel in education and leadership

Jana Foundation continues to visit secondary schools across Ghana to inspire students to take their education seriously and develop the leadership skills to shape their future — encouraging good study habits, focus and personal responsibility.

We particularly encourage girls to step forward for student leadership positions, building the confidence and skills to become effective leaders in their communities. Every student has potential — our role is to help them recognise it and give them the tools to develop it.

Supporting vulnerable women and older persons

Jana Foundation reaches some of the most marginalised women in our communities, including older women accused of witchcraft and separated from their families. We visit to provide care, listen to their needs, and help restore their dignity, hope and sense of belonging — through donations of essentials and guidance on small-scale trading, saving and responsible borrowing.

No woman should be forgotten. No vulnerable person should be left behind.

Jana Foundation and Superior Medical Centre take cervical cancer awareness to the markets

Jana Foundation and Superior Medical Centre took cervical cancer education and screening awareness directly into Ghana's markets — reaching women whose busy working lives or limited access to health information might otherwise keep them from prioritising their health.

Women were able to ask questions, share concerns and learn about prevention and early detection. Cervical cancer can be devastating when caught late — but timely screening and care can make all the difference.
